In an incident seldom covered by the mainstream media, former Vice President Joe Biden’s niece, Caroline, was arrested in Pennsylvania in 2019 and charged with driving while under the influence of controlled substances after she wrecked her vehicle into a tree.
Now, more than a year later, Caroline Biden has finally been delivered a sentence for her crimes — but according to Fox News, she will avoid spending a single day behind bars thanks to a sweetheart plea deal.
Rather than endure what would normally be a jail sentence of 20 days to six months, Caroline Biden will instead serve just five months of probation, and be on the hook for fines and court costs incurred, as part of the deal reached with the county prosecutors, Fox reported.
“Should she then violate or break the law at any time, then she will be on the hook for the rest of the sentence,” Kate Delano, a spokeswoman for the Montgomery County district attorney, said of the plea deal, according to Fox.
A nice deal – if you can get it
According to Fox, the deal stems from an August 2019 incident that saw Caroline Biden crash her vehicle into a tree in Lower Merion Township in Pennsylvania. A search of Caroline Biden’s wrecked vehicle reportedly turned up two bottles of prescription medications.
A subsequent blood test showed that those drugs, as well as others, were in Caroline Biden’s system at the time of the accident, Fox reported.
According to People magazine, Caroline Biden was able to get out of jail for charges including DUI, driving without a license, and careless driving with a plea deal that gave her credit toward her sentence for 20 days spent in a rehab facility. The total cost of her fees and fines amounts to just under $2,000, People reported.
Caroline Biden was also ordered to participate in 12 hours of community service as well as a drug and alcohol awareness program, and had her license suspended for a year, according to reports.
Not her first rodeo
The New York Post first revealed in July, when Caroline Biden’s case was still pending, that this won’t be her first time skating past the consequences of her actions.
According to the Post, Caroline Biden had been charged in 2013 with assaulting a New York police officer following a domestic dispute with a roommate, but that charge was dismissed after she agreed to enroll in an anger management program.
Caroline Biden again dodged accountability in 2017 when she was charged with racking up $110,000 in charges on a stolen credit card. Her felony conviction in that case was tossed out, and she pleaded guilty to a far less significant charge of petty larceny that allowed her to walk free with no jail sentence, the Post reported.
It seems skirting accountability is becoming something of a pattern for the Biden family.
