Democrat Joe Biden has big changes in store for American education.
Wednesday on Twitter Biden did some advertising for his free tuition plan.
“In the 21st century, twelve years of school isn’t enough,” Biden wrote. “That’s why under the Biden-Harris plan, community college will be free — and public colleges and universities will be tuition-free for families earning less than $125,000 a year.”
Some specifics
This free tuition proposal is part of “The Biden Plan For Education Beyond High School.”
As Biden stated, under his plan, an individual would be able to go to a public university or college for free for the first four years. All that is required is a family income of less than $125,000 to be eligible.
And, if an individual wants to go to community college, he or she will be able to do so for free for the first two years.
How will this be paid for, you might ask. According to Biden’s plan, about 75 percent would be covered by the federal government and the states would be expected to cover the remainder.
Biden’s plan for student loan debt
This is only one of several big changes that Biden plans to make to American education. Another is canceling a large amount of student debt. This is mentioned in a coronavirus relief proposal called “The Biden Emergency Action Plan to Save the Economy.”
In this plan, Biden says that he will look to “forgive a minimum of $10,000 per person of federal student loans. He would also look to cover private student loan payments through September 2021.
The far-left has been urging Biden to cancel another $50,000 in student loans through executive action. But, Biden recently rejected that idea, telling the Washington Post:
I’m going to get in trouble for saying this, [but] it’s arguable that the president may have the executive power to forgive up to $50,000 in student debt. Well, I think that’s pretty questionable. I’m unsure of that. I’d be unlikely to do that.
He didn’t forget about teachers, either.
On Wednesday, Biden also called for teachers to be paid “what they deserve,” adding “the work they do is of extreme national importance — and their salaries should reflect that.”
The irony here can’t be ignored: America is spending more and more on education, while Americans are becoming less and less educated. The greatest irony of all will be when the entirety of America’s money goes to education – by that point, we’ll be a nation of illiterates. If you think this is hyperbole, just watch the Democrats take us there.
