Cruz slams Biden over Haitian migrant issue, says he ‘canceled’ deportation flights

As the first round of the Haitian migrant crisis in Del Rio, Texas wraps up, President Joe Biden is taking heat from Republicans over the handling of the issue.

According to Fox News, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) shared notable information during his time at the podium as the keynote speaker at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference in Michigan, claiming earlier this month that when roughly 900 Haitian migrants had gathered under the bridge, the Biden administration canceled the scheduled deportation flights.

Cruz went on to add that because Biden canceled the scheduled deportation flights, it prompted the 900 or so Haitian migrants to call their friends and family members, which then turned into some 15,000 migrants living in squalor under the bridge.

The timeline

Cruz recalled to the audience that on Sept. 8, there were roughly 900 Haitian migrants being prepped to be flown out of the country, likely under Title 42 laws.

“The Mexican cartels have been funneling the Haitian illegal immigrants to Del Rio for whatever reason,” Cruz said. “Well, on September 8th, there were roughly nine hundred Haitians preparing to be loaded onto planes to be flown back and deported to Haiti.”

The senator went on to describe how because Biden apparently canceled those flights, which would have cleared up the problem virtually overnight, it instead blossomed into a full-blown crisis.

“That was on September 8th. I was in Del Rio on September 16th, eight days later,” Cruz told the audience. “In eight days, the seven hundred illegal immigrants under the bridge had become 10,503.”

The Texas senator added: “Within a few days later, it had become over 15,000.”

Democrats agree

Perhaps most surprisingly, a number of high-profile Democrats are not happy with how Biden and his administration grossly mishandled the Haitian migrant encampment, including Former Texas congressman and presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke.

According to the New York Post, O’Rourke slammed Biden for not having a “plan” on how to deal with the rapidly evolving situation.

“Unfortunately, stung by the outcry and caught without a plan, the Biden administration used a cynical Trump-era policy (known as Title 42) to immediately, and without due process, repatriate Haitians back to the country they left a decade ago, one whose streets are now ruled by gangs and criminals,” the former Texas lawmaker said.

With the possibility of more caravans of thousands of migrants heading to the U.S. border in the near future, it’s clear that the Biden administration either has absolutely no idea how to handle such situations or, worse, they know exactly what they’re doing.
