Secret Service emails show Biden’s dog Major was involved in more biting ‘incidents’ than initially reported

Joe Biden’s administration was forced to admit last spring that the president’s 3-year-old German shepherd, Major, had “nipped” White House personnel on more than one occasion. But a new report suggests that version of events doesn’t tell the whole story.

Citing documents obtained by government watchdog group Judicial Watch, NBC News reported Friday that Major “was a bit more of a problem pooch than the White House initially acknowledged.”

Judicial Watch had filed a lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) seeking documents from the Department of Homeland Security.

The suit uncovered emails from the Secret Service that suggested Major was involved in more “biting incidents” than initial reports let on.

“Stand your ground”

According to NBC, one of the messages obtained by Judicial Watch suggested that Major had bitten someone every day for seven days in a row.

“At the current rate an Agent or Officer has been bitten every day this week (3/1-3/8) causing damage to attire or bruising/punctures to the skin,” the message read.

Another email from early March provided tips for agents set to work alongside the dog. “This weekend in Wilmington, there were 3 minor incidents where Major nipped/ brushed up and nudged,” the email read.

It added: “Panicking or running with only embolden animals so stand your ground and protect your hands/fingers by placing them in your pockets or behind your back.”

“Some challenges adjusting”

The new report sheds a not-so-positive light on the White House as it continues to grapple with the fallout from a botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Notably, the White House had tried to play off allegations of aggression by Major when reports first revealed the bites last spring.

In a statement in March, Michael LaRosa, First Lady Jill Biden’s press secretary, claimed Major was “still adjusting,” according to NBC. “Major is still adjusting to his new surroundings and he nipped someone while on a walk,” LaRosa said.

Asked why the White House appeared to mislead Americans about Major’s escapades, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki gave a wandering answer. “As we’ve stated previously, Major has had some challenges adjusting to life in the White House,” she said, according to NBC. “He has been receiving additional training as well as spending some time in Delaware where the environment is more familiar to him and he is more comfortable.”

If the White House is covering something like this up, it’s anyone’s guess what else they may be hiding.
