Trump urges supporters to ‘boycott baseball’ and the ‘woke companies’ protesting new Georgia voting law

According to Breitbart, on Friday, former President Donald Trump called for a boycott of Major League Baseball and other companies who chose to protest a recently-passed Georgia voting and election reform law, claiming that it was a form of voter suppression. 

“Boycott baseball and all of the woke companies that are interfering with Free and Fair Elections,” Trump wrote in a statement. “Are you listening Coke, Delta, and all!”

Nearly 100 companies, including Facebook, Google, Bank of America, Microsoft, and The Home Depot, have come out and publicly denounced the controversial Georgia law, which now requires voter identification for absentee ballots while making universal mail-in ballots illegal, among other voting changes meant to prevent voter fraud and bolster election integrity in future elections.

“Best way to demonstrate our values”

Trump’s call to boycott professional baseball followed MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred’s announcement on Friday that the MLB All-Star Game would be moved out of Atlanta as a form of protesting the new voting laws.

“I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft,” he wrote in a statement, citing “thoughtful conversations” with players.

However, much of the opposition to the law seems to be based on rampant misinformation about its provisions and what it aims to do in terms of voting.

The Washington Post gave President Joe Biden a “Four Pinocchios” rating for recently claiming that the law would close the polls at 5 p.m. on Election Day while adding that the new law was reminiscent of the Jim Crow era. Biden also called the law “sick” and “un-American,” but he was grossly mistaken or outright lying about many aspects of the new law.

The law would allow early voting locations to close at 5 p.m. on weekends, but not require them to do so. Polling places would remain open until 7 p.m. on Election Day as they had been previously.

In the report calling out Biden’s misinformation, The Post noted that the law actually expanded opportunities for many Georgians to vote early or absentee, but did require tightened ID measures to obtain an absentee ballot.

Democrats say law is “racist”

Democrats have widely attacked the law as being “racist” even though there’s nothing in the language of the law that discriminates against voters based on race or any other protected category.

Unfortunately, it seems that many companies have fallen for the Democrats’ lies about the new law and bowed to the “woke” police, which seems to be a popular form of garnering some extra public relations attention that cannot normally be bought.

If Republicans don’t find a way to stop letting the Democrats label everything “racist” just because they don’t like it, they are doomed to lose elections for the forseeable future no matter what laws they put in place, as it’s not a stretch to presume that millions of Americans have grown tired of the political games.
