Trump: “Boycott baseball”

Former President Donald Trump just weighed in on Major League Baseball’s (MLB) decision to move its All-Star game from Atlanta, Georgia, in protest of Georgia’s new election law.

According to Breitbart, Trump’s advice for those not happy with the MLB’s decision is to “boycott baseball.

Background

Trump’s statement comes in response to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred’s announcement that the MLB will move its All-Star game and its draft out of Atlanta, Georgia.

“Over the last week, we have engaged in thoughtful conversations with Clubs, former and current players, the Players Association, and The Players Alliance, among others, to listen to their views,” Manfred wrote in a statement released on Friday. “I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft.”

Manfred’s decision comes after some MLB players and others have suggested that this would be an appropriate response to Georgia’s new election security law, which liberals argue will result in voter suppression, particularly the suppression of minority voters.

Interestingly, many top Democrat politicians in Georgia have come out against the idea, even though they do not support the new election law. Their argument is that moving the game out of Atlanta, Georgia, will financially hurt the minority groups that they are looking to help.

“Boycott baseball”

This week, President Joe Biden came out in support of the idea of moving the MLB All-Star game out of Georiga. Now, former President Trump gave his opinion on the matter, and, according to him, Americans ought to “boycott baseball and all of the woke companies that are interfering with Free and Fair Elections.”

Trump, here, was referring to the more than 100 companies, including Coca-Cola, Delta, Google, and even Home Depot, who have come out against Georgia’s new law.

Trump went on to say that baseball is losing “tremendous numbers” of fans as a result of going political. “[T]hey are afraid of the Radical Left Democrats who do not want voter I.D., which is desperately needed, to have anything to do with our elections,” Trump said.

Sports viewership was already down because of the decision of many professional leagues to go woke. We’ll have to see if fans unhappy with the MLB’s decision take Trump’s advice and boycott the league.

Another idea

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., has also weighed in on the situation. He is calling for lawmakers to remove the MLB’s Sherman Antitrust Act exemption.

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) has announced that he is pursuing this idea.
