GOP firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene introduces bill to oust Dr. Fauci

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) and a top White House adviser throughout the coronavirus pandemic, has repeatedly drawn the ire of conservatives and libertarians alike for his heavy-handed response to COVID-19.

Now, one Republican member of the House has filed legislation specifically intended to force Fauci out, The Hill reports.

An effort to oust Fauci

If passed, the “Fire Fauci Act,” first proposed by freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), would slash the doctor’s exorbitant salary — $434,312, the highest of any federal employee, according to Forbes — to $0 annually until he’s removed from his position as director of the NIAID.

The act also calls for full exposure of Fauci’s numerous contradictions over the past year with regard to the pandemic, as well as an independent investigation into the NIAID and its response to COVID-19.

Simultaneously, Greene also introduced a bill called the “We Will Not Comply Act” that seeks to prohibit the mandate or use of so-called “vaccine passports” by governments or private businesses to discriminate between Americans who have and have not received a COVID-19 vaccine, as The Hill notes.

Massie signs on

According to the Washington Examiner, Greene’s “Fire Fauci Act” quickly garnered co-sponsorship from libertarian-leaning Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who has long been an outspoken critic of the NIAID director.

“The fact that Fauci was ever paid with tax-payer money is an embarrassment to the United States of America,” Massie said.

According to the Examiner, Massie has particularly taken issue with Fauci’s alleged “misrepresentation of scientific data” to push “public policy goals;” his on-again, off-again support for mask mandates, lockdowns, and school closures; and his endorsement of un-American and tyrannical “vaccine passports” to enable Americans to return to a normal way of life.

Unlikely to succeed

To be sure, these bills have zero chance of being passed by the Democratic-controlled House and will surely be lambasted and decidedly dismissed by Democrats and those in the media who essentially worship Dr. Fauci and his advice when it comes to the coronavirus.

Regardless, it’s nice to see at least an effort from the GOP to fight back against an increasingly authoritarian response by the U.S. government to a pandemic that has changed the world forever.
