Democrat Joe Biden was declared the prospective winner of the 2020 presidential election by the media weeks ago, but he has now gained enough electors to officially win the election, the AP reported Friday.
The state of California certified its election results on Friday, bringing Biden’s tally up to 279 — just a bit more than needed. In order to win the election, a candidate must win 270 or more electors. With a population of nearly 40 million, blue California has 55 electors — more than any other state.
While President Donald Trump is still challenging potential election fraud and irregularities, the mainstream media considers Biden to be the president-elect already. Accordingly, Biden and his vice-presidential pick, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) have been busy filling out a prospective administration with Obama-era bureaucrats like Anthony Blinken, Jen Psaki, and the controversial Neera Tanden.
Trump continues to press challenges
Meanwhile, Trump’s legal team has been challenging the results in swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, based on affidavits of irregularities from poll workers, observers, and voters.
In Georgia, where Biden has a lead of just over 12,000 votes, according to Fox News, Trump’s team filed a new lawsuit Friday. “Due to significant systemic misconduct, fraud, and other irregularities occurring during the election process, many thousands of illegal votes were cast, counted, and included in the tabulations from the Contested Election for the Office of the President of the United States, thereby creating substantial doubt regarding the results of that election,” the lawsuit says.
The president has continued to insist that the election has been “rigged” in favor of “Sleepy Joe” — and many Republicans who were watching as the votes came in on Election Night agree.
“The only thing more RIGGED than the 2020 Presidential Election is the FAKE NEWS SUPPRESSED MEDIA. No matter how big or important the story, if it is even slightly positive for ‘us’, or negative for ‘them’, it will not be reported!” Trump tweeted on Friday.
Earlier this year, Democrats pushed to widely expand mail-in voting across the country in the name of safety, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Asserting that mail-in voting ballots are more vulnerable to fraud, Trump and Republicans pushed back on the plans from the beginning, to no avail.
Republicans split
While the president is still exercising his legal rights, some Republicans are already giving up. Former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway seemed to admit as much on Friday, saying, “If you look at the vote totals in the Electoral College tally, it looks like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will prevail.”
Others, like attorney Sidney Powell, say Trump still has a chance.
“We have at least until Dec. 14,” Powell told Newsmax TV’s “Stinchfield” on Friday. ”We might file more suits. The court in Michigan or Wisconsin today just gave us a great order recognizing that. These are not pure election contests we are filing. These are massive fraud suits that can set aside the results of the election due to this fraud at any time. The states should not be certifying election results in the face of it.”
