Footage of Democrat Senate candidate mocking churchgoers that want to carry weapons for self-defense surfaces

The results of the Georgia Senate runoff elections have enormous implications for the American people, and as such, the race is intensifying as the day approaches.

New footage of Georgia Democrat Senate candidate Rev. Raphael Warnock — who is running against incumbent Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) — shows him mocking churchgoers for wanting to be able to use guns to defend themselves, which could be a fatal mistake for the embattled Democrat candidate.

Disdain for the deplorables

Democrats have long tripped themselves up in elections by openly showing their disgust for blue-collar, evangelical Americans, and it appears that some years ago, Warnock fell into the same trap.

The undated footage, posted on Monday by the National Rifle Association on Twitter, shows Rev. Warnock “LAUGHING at church-goers who defend themselves with guns.”

Warnock was speaking about the Safe Carry Protection Act, passed in 2014, that reduced the number of gun-free zones, allowing Americans to carry guns for self-defense in hopes of reducing the incidence of mass shootings in public.

Warnock pooh-poohed the measure in the newly-surfaced footage, remarking to his supporters: “somebody decided that they had a bright idea to pass a piece of legislation that will allow for guns and concealed weapons to be carried in churches,” adding that churchers are the “last place” anyone should be carrying a gun.

Warnock did not address the many instances in which a “good guy with a gun” has stopped a shooter from opening fire or inflicting greater damage at a religious gathering because they were allowed to carry a weapon within that space.

Under fire

Warnock has already faced multiple waves of criticism for his far-left stance on a number of issues since the initiation of the Georgia runoffs.

Recently, the former pastor inflamed controversy when footage of a sermon preached in 2019 showed Warnock dismissing concerns about the opioid crisis in America because “the faces of the human tragedy are white and suburban.”

Georgia, which was once a GOP stronghold, now finds itself choosing between a far-left progressive and a staunch Trump supporter in two separate runoffs, and prominent GOP figures have warned that the outcome of these two races could change the course of history.

With the Senate majority at stake, the GOP cannot afford to lose either race. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich warned on Monday “The future of the United States depends on the outcome of the Georgia Senate races. If you don’t want a radical left-wing America dominated by left-wing judges with massive tax increases, with a policy, frankly, of appeasing China, and you don’t want that kind of future, you have to go out and vote.”
