President Donald Trump shocked the nation late Sunday when he signed the government spending bill and coronavirus relief package that had been passed the House and Senate the week prior, despite not getting everything he wanted out of the deal.
But the president promised in a statement that he would send back to Congress “a redlined version” of the legislation “that makes clear to Congress that wasteful items need to be removed” — and according to political strategist Dick Morris, that was a smart move, one that has left House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) humiliated and on the defensive.
According to Newsmax, Morris told New York radio show The Cats Roundtable on Sunday that “Trump really, really outmaneuvered [Pelosi] with brilliance.”
“He saved the American people from a vast amount of money being spent on pork and garbage,” Morris continued, “and instead redirected [the debate] to Americans.”
“A tremendous mind”
Morris also said Sunday that Trump’s move, which “just completely outfoxed” Pelosi, is the kind “that makes me miss him like crazy.”
“One of the things people don’t understand about Donald Trump is how brilliant he is,” he contended, according to Newsmax. Morris said Trump has “got a tremendous mind and uses it brilliantly” — apparently even more so than former President Bill Clinton.
“Clinton is supposed to be a genius; I worked closely with him, and I worked closely with Trump,” the analyst said. “Trump is by far more of the genius.”
In his Sunday statement, Trump said his signature on the spending and relief package was “accompanied by the formal rescission request to Congress insisting that [wasteful] funds be removed from the bill.”
“As President, I have told Congress that I want far less wasteful spending and more money going to the American people in the form of $2,000 checks per adult and $600 per child,” Trump said. On Monday night, the House passed a measure to up the relief checks, but it would only take one Republican senator to block it in the upper chamber, according to USA Today.
Morris slams Biden
Morris, for his part, also took the time Sunday to criticize former Vice President Joe Biden and his personnel picks for his upcoming administration.
“If Joe Biden’s team, as he put it, were a baseball team, it wouldn’t be an All-Star team — it wouldn’t even be a regular team — it would be more like Old-Timers’ Day,” he remarked, according to Newsmax. “What he’s done is bring back all the people who were in Obama’s administration,” the strategist complained.
While Trump is looking forward, it seems Pelosi, Biden, and company are trying to live in the past — all at Americans’ expense.
