Trump sets the date for ‘big protest’ in DC over election results: ‘Be there, will be wild!’

President Donald Trump has set the date for a large protest in Washington, D.C. to “stop the steal.”

In a tweet Sunday, the president encouraged his supporters to show up in the nation’s capital on Jan. 6, writing, “See you in Washington, DC, on January 6th. Don’t miss it. Information to follow!”

“Be there, will be wild!”

Trump has said for weeks that the election was “rigged” in favor of his Democratic rival Joe Biden — and now, he’s mobilizing his base to make sure his claims are heard.

Writing Sunday, Trump called on his supporters to protest the “scam” election on the day Congress meets in a joint session to count the Electoral College votes, which turned out 306–232 in favor of Joe Biden. There have been “stop the steal” protests all over the country since Election Day, and this would be the third rally in the nation’s capital, according to Washington’s WUSA 9.

The Freedom Plaza event is being organized by Women for America First, according to a Washington ABC affiliate. The president previously said that the event would be “wild.”

“Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 Election. Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!” Trump wrote Dec. 19.

Trump takes on the GOP

Some Republican lawmakers have signaled support for Trump’s calls to protest Biden’s putative Electoral College victory, The Hill notes, but Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) is opposed to any such effort.

It’s a development that has Trump livid: the president has slammed the GOP for its inaction against an election that he and most Republican voters believe was illegitimate, recently complaining that he would “never forget” the disloyalty of Republicans, including McConnell.

“I saved at least 8 Republican Senators, including Mitch, from losing in the last Rigged (for President) Election. Now they (almost all) sit back and watch me fight against a crooked and vicious foe, the Radical Left Democrats. I will NEVER FORGET!” the president tweeted on Christmas Eve.

Back to the Peach State

Trump also noted Sunday that he will return to Georgia on Jan. 4, the night before the state’s runoff contests that will decide control of the Senate.

It will be Trump’s second visit to the state since Election Day, according to the Wall Street Journal.
