Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) drew outrage when it emerged that she got her hair done at a salon in violation of San Francisco’s strict coronavirus lockdown rules.
However, that isn’t Pelosi’s home city’s only double standard. San Francisco gym owners are furious after discovering that city-owned gyms have been open for months while private ones remain closed by government order.
Shocking discovery
“It’s shocking, it’s infuriating,” the Washington Examiner quoted Daniele Rabkin as telling a local NBC affiliate. Rabkin is the owner of Crossfit Golden Gate. Rabkin’s feelings aren’t unique: Dave Karraker owns MX3 Fitness, and he too is quoted as expressing anger over the city’s policy.
“It just demonstrates that there seems to be some kind of a double standard between what city employees are allowed to do and what the residents of San Francisco are allowed to do,” he complained.
“What the city has unwillingly done is created this great case study that says that working out indoors is actually safe,” Karraker continued. “So, at this point, we’re just demanding that they allow us to have the same workout privileges for the citizens of San Francisco that the employees of San Francisco have.”
NBC reports that the city is currently requiring private gyms to stay shuttered through at least the end of September, while police department gyms and the Hall of Justice gym are open for city employees.
Nancy Pelosi illustrates the double standard
The apparently selective nature of San Francisco’s rules came to national prominence last week when security footage surfaced showing Pelosi maskless inside of a salon.
Rather than take responsibility for her actions, Pelosi held a press conference where she professed ignorance of the rules and blamed the salon’s owner for orchestrating a “set up.”
“As it turns out, it was a setup,” the veteran California Democrat told reporters last Wednesday. “So I take responsibility for falling for a setup,” she said, adding that the salon owner owes her an apology. The salon owner denies that it was a setup.
Rather than focus on Pelosi’s actions or outraged San Franciscans, San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D) used the incident as an opportunity to attack President Donald Trump.
“We have a terrorist, we have a dictator who is running this country,” she said, according to the Washington Examiner, “and Nancy Pelosi is at the forefront fighting against this person every day, you know.”
Meanwhile, a group of women protested outside Pelosi’s home in San Francisco last week, saying they want “to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to earn a living and feed their families.”
