Steve Bannon, once a top adviser to former President Donald Trump, made a number of stunning bombshell claims during a Monday afternoon press conference as he surrendered himself at an FBI field office.
According to the Washington Examiner, Bannon told reporters that he’s been personally targeted by the Biden administration, referencing the Justice Department’s recent indictment issued against him for failing to comply with two congressional subpoenas. Bannon claimed at a press conference Monday that President Joe Biden himself was behind the indictment.
“If the administrative state wants to take me on, bring it,” Bannon said. “We’re gonna go on offense.”
Doubling down, Bannon warned Biden and his Democratic allies of the consequences of going after him and Trump, reminding them to ask former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton how that’s worked out in the past.
What’s going on?
It was on Monday that Bannon, in what appeared to be a good faith maneuver, turned himself in at the FBI Washington Field Office after being indicted last week by a federal grand jury.
While the former Trump adviser was given strict instructions and restrictions on where and how far he can travel, prosecutors chose not to detain him while he awaits his arraignment, which is scheduled to take place next week.
He faces two charges, one for “his failure to appear for a deposition and another count for failing to present relevant documents to the committee,” the Examiner noted.
Each charge reportedly carries a minimum 30-day jail sentence, with a maximum of one year of incarceration for each charge.
“A scam”
David Schoen, the prominent attorney representing Bannon, insisted that the entire ordeal was “a scam from the beginning,” adding that he believes the Jan. 6 committee is comprised overwhelmingly of anti-Trump members of Congress.
“This is not an investigative committee,” Schoen said, claiming that the committee has already pre-judged everyone connected to the former president.
Bannon shot back at a small protest crowd that gathered, with many of them holding signs accusing Bannon of inciting what they like to call an “insurrection” at the Capitol building on Jan. 6.
“You see these signs right here talking about insurrection and all that. That’s what this country is all about. Freedom of speech. They have their opinion, I have mine,” Bannon shouted.
