‘QAnon Shaman’ Jacob Chansley sentenced to more than 3 years in prison for involvement in Jan. 6 breach

Jacob Chansley, known to many as the “QAnon Shaman” for the bizarre outfit he wore during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, has been sentenced to 41 months in prison, WUSA 9 in Washington reports.

The sentence, among the longest of any Jan. 6 defendant so far, comes despite Chansley having committed no violence. Still, prosecutors had asked for an even longer sentence than he received — 51 months — arguing he was the “public face” of the riot despite his non-violent actions.

41 months in lock-up

Chansley spent about an hour inside the Capitol, during which he left a note for then-Vice President Mike Pence reading, “Justice is coming!” and made political statements on the Senate dais about ridding the country of “globalists” and “communists.”

He pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Many have decried Chansley’s excessive, political punishment. Journalist Julie Kelly, who has covered the unrest of Jan. 6 extensively, spoke for many when she described Chansley as a “political prisoner,” while Glenn Greenwald predicted that many on the left will cheer to see Chansley suffer.

Chansley, who suffers with mental illness, has no criminal history and has already spent 10 months in solitary confinement, Kelly reported. His time there caused his mental health to deteriorate, according to his lawyer.

“I’m not an insurrectionist”

Many would argue that Chansley is not a particularly threatening figure — but prosecutors said they want to make an example of the “shaman,” who they described as a “domestic terrorist” in their sentencing memo, Kelly noted.

What does it say about the Biden White House and its “insurrection” narrative that this is the man the government is calling the “flagbearer?”

Chansley will receive credit for the time he has already served, as WUSA 9 reports. In court, he expressed contrition, calling himself a “man of honor.” But he insisted that he was not, as portrayed by the Biden regime and the media, a “domestic terrorist.”

“I’m not an insurrectionist. I’m certainly not a domestic terrorist,” he said, according to the AFP.

Judge Joyce Lamberth rebuked Chansley, saying he made himself “the center of the riot” and that his actions were “so serious that I cannot justify a downward departure,” WUSA 9 reported.
