Most of the media shifted focus from the Kyle Rittenhouse trial deliberations to a bombshell developing situation in the House concerning a possible censure vote of Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), after he posted an anime video that depicted him fighting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
According to the Washington Examiner, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) slammed Democratic leadership for moving forward with the vote, insisting that it was nothing more than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “burning down the House” ahead of her likely departure in the 2022 midterms.
In a late-breaking update, House Dems successfully censured Gosar, with two Republicans, Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), joining Democrats in censuring the Arizona lawmaker.
“Broken Congress”
McCarthy held nothing back as he attempted to defend Gosar, saying in a speech on the House floor on Wednesday that he believes this particular Congress is “broken” under Pelosi’s leadership.
“This Congress will go down in history as the broken Congress,” McCarthy said.
He added: “House Democrats have nearly every rule and standard in order to silence dissidents and stack the deck for their radical, unpopular agenda.”
“The speaker is burning down the House on the way out the door,” McCarthy concluded.
The aim of his speech on the floor was to bring up a seemingly never-ending list of examples of Democrats making comments and performing actions that were much more serious and threatening in nature than Gosar’s cartoon video, which was clearly made in good political humor and not meant as any kind of threat.
Double standard examples
Among many of the examples, McCarthy pointed to included California Rep. Maxine Waters’ (D-NY) infamous urging for supporters of Black Lives Matter (BLM) to get “more confrontational” with police officers in the case that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin wasn’t found guilty.
He also noted Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s long history of making sickening antisemitic comments, which seemingly went unchecked by her party and by most in the mainstream media.
“The House is weaker, more partisan, and more self-focused today than when Speaker Pelosi became speaker less than four years ago. Future Congress will suffer for it,” McCarthy added.
It’s truly a shame that Democrats are making moves out of sheer desperation at this point, knowing full well that they’re in for a historic beating next year in the 2022 midterms, as Americans are clearly sick and tired of their radical, progressive agenda.
