Klobuchar forced off stage by hecklers amid debate over pipeline

Failed Democrat presidential hopeful Amy Klobuchar was heckled by environmentalists at an event recently.

The Minnesota senator was forced to retreat off stage by a crowd of activists who criticized her failure to oppose the Line 3 oil pipeline, KVVR reported.

Climate activists have complained that President Joe Biden and his Democratic allies have not done enough to stop the pipeline, which carries tar sands oil across a 1,000-mile stretch that includes the headwaters of the Mississippi, located in Minnesota, according to ABC News.

Klobuchar tries to shout over activists

Klobuchar was trying to speak at a campaign event for State Representative Connie Bernardy when activists confronted her, KVRR reported.

Visibly frustrated, Klobuchar struggled to shout over the activists, but eventually walked off stage as they drowned the room in chants of “Stop Line 3.”

One banner brought by the protesters reportedly read, “Senator Klobuchar, the time is now to take a stand.” The group later boasted on Twitter about sending Klobuchar running, according to reports.

Klobuchar was seen as a moderate during her failed White House primary bid in 2020. She previously deflected when asked in August about what Biden is doing to stop the pipeline, saying it is up to the state’s jurisdiction. “I think you’ve got to really listen to the tribes and listen to their concerns,” she said, according to KVRR.

Biden’s “climate legacy”

Environmentalists and indigenous groups have fought the construction of oil pipelines, which they say threaten to despoil indigenous lands. Hundreds of people have been arrested during the Line 3 pipeline’s construction, as KVRR notes.

The pipeline is already complete, but activists want President Biden to revoke its permit — in the middle of an energy crisis that has seen the price of gasoline and home heating oil skyrocket.

Many say that Biden has done plenty to undermine America’s energy supplies already. He appeased the climate crowd by canceling the Keystone XL pipeline on Day One of his presidency, and has continued to prioritize climate change in his legislative agenda.

However, it appears the climate nuts are insatiable. Tribal attorney Tara Houska, who has fought the Line 3 pipeline for years, says Biden is not doing enough to earn the title of “climate president.”

“I am appalled by the lack of action on something like this,” she told ABC News. “You can’t be the climate president when you’re allowing through one of the largest tar sands infrastructure projects in North America. That’s his climate legacy.”
