During the 2016 presidential campaign, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton sparked widespread speculation about her health.
This week, she attracted similar attention during an interview when she experienced an extended coughing fit.
Health concerns resurface
The incident occurred on Tuesday during a live appearance on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show.

For her part, host Rachel Maddow appeared shocked by the development and went on to apologize to her guest for “surprising” her, as though the preceding remarks might have led to the alarming series of coughs.
Clinton’s coughing became an issue ahead of the 2016 election as pundits across the political spectrum questioned whether she was suffering from a more serious malady. Five years later, many people are still wondering what might be wrong.
As for the substance of this week’s MSNBC interview, Clinton attempted to make the case that President Joe Biden’s efforts on behalf of the American people have not received the appreciation they deserve.
“Demagoguery and disinformation”
“You know, a lot of people got, I think, kind of frustrated looking at the messy process of legislation,” the former secretary of state said in reference to Biden’s agenda. “And they didn’t really appreciate that, within a year, the Biden administration has passed two major pieces of legislation through both the House and the Senate.”
Clinton went on to blame the perceived disconnect on “the way we are getting our information today,” specifically “the lack of gatekeepers and people who have a historic perspective who can help us understand what we are seeing.”
Injecting politics into the equation, she claimed that “the other side is really good” at capitalizing on the “vulnerability” of many Americans to “demagoguery and disinformation.”
Furthermore, Clinton opined that an increasing number of individuals are being “manipulated” by newer forms of media that can conflate legitimate information and fake news.
While she sought to describe Americans as insufficiently appreciative of Biden’s efforts to pass a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and a $1.8 trillion domestic spending package, it might be more likely that critics simply do not agree with his plan to put the nation further in debt to pursue expensive partisan programs.
