On Sunday, during what should have been a typically fun Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, turned deadly after the driver of an SUV plowed through a crowded section of the parade, killing multiple people and injuring dozens more.
According to Fox News, a number of social media users, including Democratic politicians, mocked the tragedy by comparing it to the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, with one Illinois Democrat abruptly resigning after posting a series of despicable tweets in which she suggested the tragedy was somehow “karma” for the state of Wisconsin.
The Democrat in question is Mary Lemanski, who until Monday morning, was employed as social media director of the Democratic Party of DuPage County, Illinois. Lemanski’s resignation came after she made several disgustingly inappropriate comments about the Waukesha incident.
What did she write?
Her first message, which was posted to her Twitter account, read, “It was probably just self-defense,” adding the hashtags “#Wisconsin, and “#KyleRittenhouse.”
Clearly, Lemanski was one of many Dems across the country who were unhappy and triggered over the fact that Rittenhouse was justly acquitted on five serious charges last week.
She followed up her first asinine tweet with yet another, writing, “The blood of Kyle Rittenhouse’s victims is on the hands of Wisconsin citizens,” going on to say, “even the children.”
“I’m sad,” Lemanski wrote in another follow-up post. “I’m sad anytime anyone dies. I just believe in Karma and this came around quick on the citizens of Wisconsin.”
Capping off her embarrassing episode, which ended up costing her her career now and likely with any other employer, Lemanski wrote, “You reap what you sow, Wisconsin.”
Employer speaks out
Giving credit where it’s due, the DuPage County Democrats quickly released a statement on their former employee’s shameful and unbelievably disrespectful social media postings, rebuking her in the strongest terms in the statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy in Waukesha.We are aware of statements made by a former member of our organization and find them to be incredibly insensitive and not in alignment of who we are as an organization. Our organization does not support hate in any form,” the organization wrote.
Later on, Lemanski attempted to save face by releasing her own statement in which she admitted her remarks regarding the tragedy were “not in good taste,” but seemed to attempt to deflect blame by citing her First Amendment rights.
Authorities are expected to provide another update on the Waukesha Christmas parade incident on Monday afternoon. A suspect is currently in custody.
