Dem Rep. Tlaib blasted over bill that would empty federal prisons

Michigan Democratic Rep. and “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib has been blasted over a bill she endorsed last year that would empty federal prisons.

The bill, called the BREATHE Acts, would create a map for “prison abolition” and end federal detention centers within 10 years.

Her latest comments seem to backpedal from the sweeping claims of the bill.

“Each Case Individually”

In a Monday interview with Axios reporter Jonathan Swain, Tlaib was asked, “Do you think all people can be rehabilitated?”

“I don’t think so. I’ve been very clear about that,” Tlaib replied.

“I would have to look at every case individually and figure all of that out,” she added later. “Everyone in jail is not the same.”

Worse Than Defunding the Police

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized the interview as worse than defunding the police, another police supported by Tlaib.

“What could possibly go wrong?” Graham mocked.

“And why didn’t the media bring up this proposal during 2020 presidential campaign?” he added.

Graham also noted how a similar action with prisons in Afghanistan led to the Taliban taking over and the Kabul bombing that killed 13 American military personnel and over 150 Afghans.

“Oddly enough, Congresswoman Tlaib has had a tough time convincing Congress to follow her lead on emptying prisons,” he tweeted.

“However, the Taliban jumped all over this idea. When they took over Afghanistan first thing they did was empty all the prisons – including releasing terrorists,” he added.

The radical prison plan is unlikely to pass, but shows how unrealistic the left’s policies have become.
