Crowd outside courtroom erupts in cheers after Rittenhouse verdict announced

A number of prominent pundits seemed to predict, if not tacitly encourage, civil unrest in the event that a jury voted to acquit Kyle Rittenhouse in connection with a shooting last year during a riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

When the teen was found not guilty on all counts this week, however, those dire predictions failed to come true. Instead, those gathered outside of the courthouse largely erupted in cheers upon hearing the verdict.

Media narrative debunked

That response was just the latest evidence that the mainstream media adopted a biased and misleading stance in its coverage of the Rittenhouse case, starting with the early depiction of the then-17-year-old’s decision to open fire on protesters in what he claimed was an act of self-defense.

Townhall reporter Julio Rosas was outside of the Kenosha courthouse when the verdict was announced and captured the overwhelmingly supportive display by others in the vicinity.

A majority of those in the crowd shouted support for Rittenhouse and the rule of law.

Additionally, Rosas reported that several vehicles drove by the courthouse and honked in apparent support of the jury’s decision.

“To nuke the Second Amendment in practice”

In a tweet just hours before jurors reached their verdict, The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis opined that the attention-grabbing trial was about much more than Rittenhouse’s decision to attend what became a violent protest in August 2020.

“Having failed to eradicate the Second Amendment, which affirms on paper our God-given right to self-defense, the Left is using the Rittenhouse case to nuke the Second Amendment in practice,” Davis wrote. “They do not want a world where you have the right to fight back against their violence.”

As of Saturday, there appeared to be no widespread violence stemming from the verdict, though President Joe Biden and others in the realms of progressive politics and the mainstream media have expressed anger and outrage.

Biden’s predecessor echoed the reaction of many other Americans in celebrating what he believed was the correct decision by jurors in the trial.

“This is a young man who should not have been prosecuted, based on every ounce of evidence that you look at,” former President Donald Trump declared in an interview on Friday.
