It’s not a secret that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have completely dropped the ball on the migration crisis at the southern U.S. border, but it now appears that the situation, politically, has significantly worsened for the administration.
According to Fox News, former Democratic congressman, and presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, arguably one of the most radically progressive politicians who’s now making a gubernatorial run in Texas, slammed the Biden administration for its “lack of urgency” on the immigration crisis.
O’Rourke’s rare rebuke of the Biden administration came about during a recent interview on CNN during which he announced his candidacy for governor of the state of Texas.
What did he say?
O’Rourke, famous — or infamous — for his bizarrely radical views on a variety of political topics, was asked during the interview if he plans to ask the president to campaign for him, in what will undoubtedly be a challenging race for a Democratic gubernatorial candidate in the traditionally red state.
“This campaign in Texas is not going to be about Joe Biden, it’s not going to be about Donald Trump, it’s not going to be about anyone outside of our state,” O’Rourke said.
He added: “This is going to be about the people of Texas and what the people of Texas want.”
O’Rourke was challenged on the obvious question regarding whether or not he’s hesitant to ask Biden to campaign, given the president’s historically low polling numbers, which are partly a result of his inaction on the southern U.S. border immigration crisis.
“I’m focused on Texas and on my fellow Texans,” O’Rourke replied. “Those are the people most important to me. There is no politician, there is no other person from outside of this state who can help change the course of this election for better or for worse.”
O’Rourke slams Biden
Obviously tuning into the hot topic of the year, O’Rourke presumably understands that he’ll be forced to run on the Biden administration’s failure to quell the immigration crisis, as he took a clear shot at the administration later in the interview.
“I do not think we have seen enough urgency when it comes to rewriting our immigration laws to match the needs and the reality that we see, especially in our border communities,” he said.
O’Rourke added: “So, yes, we expect more of our president and those who represent us in Congress.”
His comments are likely one of many to come from other Democratic candidates who are now forced to decided whether or not they’ll distance from the failures of the current White House administration, as Democrats are expected to take a number of losses in next year’s election.
