As President Joe Biden’s popularity continues to decline, many Democrats are looking to Vice President Kamala Harris to carry the party’s mantle in the 2024 presidential race — if not sooner.
Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany recently pointed out, however, that Harris has her own track record of gaffes and misstatements, which does not appear to be improving.
“Code for her presidential bid”
McEnany, who served as the Trump administration’s top spokesperson, offered her view during a recent appearance on Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered.
Responding to the “interesting” news that Harris has hired a new communications consultant, McEnany said: “There’s nothing strategic about the way Kamala Harris cackles when asked about Afghans hanging from planes, cackles when asked about the border.”
Asserting that Harris clearly “needs advice,” she expressed a belief that there is no “turning around the ship for her.”
McEnany also cited the “long-term planning” the vice president’s team is supposedly engaging in, concluding: “That’s simply code for her presidential bid in 2024 or beyond.”
The ex-White House press secretary declared that the vice president “doesn’t care about the actual problem” and is only focused on “how she’s perceived,” which is “why she didn’t go to the border until she was pressured.”
“Ethnic genocide and displacement of people”
Harris is not helping her case among many of her critics by engaging in divisive rhetoric like her recent exchange with a college student.
According to Fox News, she was speaking at George Mason University in Virginia on Tuesday when she took questions from those in attendance. One individual complained about “funds allocated to continued backing Israel,” referring to supposed “ethnic genocide and displacement of people” being perpetrated as a result.
The student’s apparent reference to legislation backing Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system was met with support from the vice president.
Harris said she was “glad” to hear her perspective and insisted that “this is about the fact that your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth, should not be suppressed and it must be heard.”
If it were not clear enough already that Harris expressed a troublesome position in response to the anti-Israel rhetoric, Fox News further reported that Iranian state media has since been using a clip of the exchange in its own propaganda.
