Much of the nation has been captivated in recent weeks by an ongoing manhunt for Brian Laundrie, who is wanted by police as a person of interest in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito.
As the search continues, media outlets are providing regular updates about Laundrie — including the account of one former colleague who described him as a “weirdo” with a short temper.”
Former colleague describes Laundrie as “chameleon”
According to Fox News, the one-time co-worker described Laundrie’s personality as that of a “chameleon.”
Petito and Laundrie had embarked on a cross-country road trip over the summer, but Petito never returned. Her remains were recovered last month in Wyoming and her death has been listed as a homicide by manual strangulation.
Although her boyfriend has not been named a suspect in her death, police have issued an arrest warrant on fraud charges over his alleged use of Petito’s bank card to make unauthorized withdrawals.
For his part, Michael Livingston expressed concerns about Laundrie based on their time working together at a garden center in Long Island, New York, between 2017 and 2018.
Although Livingston said Laundrie did not seem like the “killing type,” he did display a quick temper. At one point, he said Petito stopped by the store to visit her boyfriend and discussed road trips she wanted to take with him.
“He knew how to make people like him”
“He was a good employee who knew how to talk to people,” Livingston said of Laundrie. “He knew how to make people like him, he knew how to make people happy, and he knew how to make people buy the product that we had, honest.”
Laundrie returned home to Florida alone in Petito’s van on Sept. 1. She was reported missing more than a week later, and he disappeared just days after that.
After more than a month, the search for the missing man continues as local, state, and federal officials follow up on leads and tips from individuals who claim to have crossed paths with him.
As the manhunt continues, an individual who reportedly resembles the fugitive was recently ambushed by the feds while hiking the Appalachian Trail, where Laundrie sightings have been reported.
The latest development came on Wednesday when a coroner arrived at a Florida park where Laundrie’s possessions were found. Reports indicate apparent human remains were also discovered at the scene.
