Report: Items belonging to Laundrie, human remains found in Florida park

On Wednesday, a huge development in the search for Brian Laundrie generated headlines, as a number of clothing and other items were found in a Florida park, alongside what authorities have described as human remains, the Washington Examiner reports.

A Sarasota County, Florida coroner, along with cadaver dogs, were called by the North Port Police Department to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, which is a heavily wooded area that connects to the Carlton Reserve.

Some of the items, including a backpack, were reported to resemble the very same backpack Laundrie was seen wearing.

Another development

The discovery of the items of clothing and the human remains came on the same day that the attorney representing Briand Laundrie’s parents confirmed the couple had arrived at the park the night before to search for their son, who went missing in September just two days before Gabby Petito’s body was discovered.

Attorney Steven Bertolino confirmed to the media that some of the items found did, in fact, belong to Brian Laundrie, Fox News reported.

The human remains discovered at the site had been previously submerged in water, and it’s unclear as of this writing whether authorities believe they belong to the sole person of interest in Petito’s homicide, though the FBI is expected to provide an update with what the agency knows.

The park where the human remains and various items were discovered has been closed to allow law enforcement to conduct a proper investigation.

Why that park?

Brian Laundrie’s parents previously reported to law enforcement that their son had left on Sept. 13 to hike at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, although their attorney had originally stated that he departed on Sept. 14, later revising the date.

Since his disappearance, authorities have led an exhaustive search of both the Myakkahatchee park and the connected reserve, but given the sheer size of the park, it obviously complicated the efforts.

While Brian Laundrie remains only a “person of interest” in Petito’s homicide, the FBI previously charged him with fraud, as he allegedly used another person’s debit card to obtain cash from an ATM, with many believing that the card belonged to Petito.

Only time will tell if and when Brian Laundrie is finally located, but now the big question remains: Is he still alive?
