Biden heads home for Delaware relaxation amid multiple disaster situations

Parts of the United States have been utterly devastated by Hurricane Ida at the same time that an unknown number of Americans remain trapped behind enemy lines in Afghanistan following President Joe Biden’s botched U.S. troop withdrawal.

Yet, despite those challenges, it appears that President Biden is focusing on different priorities over the Labor Day weekend. According to Breitbart, the president will spend the holiday vacationing, once again, at his home in Delaware.

The outlet cited an ABC News report as indicating that Biden has signaled no plans to visit New York or New Jersey, both of which were hit hard by Ida’s remnants as the storm moved northeast and caused historic, catastrophic flooding that resulted in multiple deaths.

The president’s decision to leave for Delaware did not go noticed by his opponents, who argued that it was inappropriate for him to relax given the circumstances.

Republicans lash out

“Joe Biden is headed back on vacation,” The Washington Times quoted Republican National Committee (RNC) rapid response director Tommy Pigott as saying in a recent statement.

“When Kabul fell, he was on vacation,” Pigott continued. “As the chaotic evacuation began, he slowly came back to the White House and then quickly went back on vacation.

“And now, after he broke his promise and stranded hundreds of Americans in Afghanistan, he is going back home for yet another vacation,” the GOP operative concluded, adding, “This is Biden’s version of fiddling as Rome burns.”

Notably, it’s not the first time that Biden’s vacation plans have become a partisan issue, as the New York Post pointed out that he was “heavily criticized” last month for staying at Camp David as Taliban forces overran Afghan forces in Afghanistan, eventually taking complete control of the war-torn country.

Although the president briefly returned to Washington D.C. to give a televised national address on the matter, Biden promptly returned to Camp David, which sparked even more outrage.

CDC says stay home

Interestingly, Biden’s decision to leave the White House comes even as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has strongly promoted the idea of staying at home over the holiday weekend as COVID-19 cases surge in certain parts of the country.

The Post said Dr. Walensky has urged unvaccinated people not to travel while suggesting that even those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 should be wary.

“People who are fully vaccinated and who are wearing masks can travel although given where we are with disease transmission right now, we would say that people need to take these risks into their own consideration as they think about traveling,” Dr. Walensky said.
