Suspect arrested after car hits five NYPD officers

A horrific scene in New York played out over the weekend in which five police officers were struck by a motorist on Staten Island.

According to the Washington Examiner, the plainclothed NYPD officers were installing road barriers on Sunday morning near Livermore and Forest avenues when the suspect sped through and ran them down.

Police arrest suspect on multiple charges

Four of the victims were subsequently transported to an area hospital. While their conditions were not immediately confirmed, a statement from the agency indicated that all officers involved are expected to survive.

The fifth officer reportedly refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police have identified 39-year-old Brian Manning as the driver and he was arrested a short time later. He now faces criminal charges including driving while intoxicated, assault, driving without a license, and refusing to take a field sobriety test.

This is not the first time in recent months that law enforcement personnel in the state have been hit by someone accused of driving under the influence.

In April, Jessica Beauvais was charged with vehicular manslaughter and reckless endangerment after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in the death of NYPD officer Anastasio Tsakos.

“Go open up a daycare”

Not only had her license been suspended 14 times before the crash, but Beauvais was also described as an activist who posted a profanity-laced video in which she disparaged police before hitting Tsakos.

During the two-hour Facebook live stream, she could be seen smoking and drinking what she claimed was vodka.

At one point, she reportedly shouted “f*** the police” before continuing her tirade against what she perceived to be shortcomings in the criminal justice system.

She went on to denounce “the ignorance that was the Derek Chauvin trial” as well as the fact that officers feel the need to carry guns on duty.

“Why do you need a weapon to do your job?” Beauvais asked. “If you were afraid for your life, go be a secretary at Walmart. Do us all a favor. Go open up a daycare. But please stop hitting us with the [expletive] excuse that you felt threatened about something.”
