The media have adopted a new term — “white rage” — in its seemingly perpetual effort to stir up racial division, a term which enters the pantheon of implied racial shame alongside the likes of “white fragility,” “white guilt,” “white supremacy,” and “white toxicity,” among others, all intended to denigrate white people.
The new phrase, “white rage,” was then employed in a coordinated fashion against Fox News host Tucker Carlson by CNN hosts Brian Stelter, and Brianna Keilar, The Daily Caller reported.
Carlson is “white rage,” Stelter says
The first to use the new talking point du jour was Stelter, who essentially accused Carlson of being the physical embodiment of “white rage” in a tweet posted Thursday in which he took issue with what Carlson had said during a segment on his program earlier that evening.
Stelter shared a Mediaite report about Carlson’s diatribe against Joint Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, after the general defended the teaching of critical race theory and other racially divisive materials to military cadets, recruits, and service members.
Carlson took issue with Milley’s use of the phrase “white rage,” and said, “Notice he never defined White rage? And we should know what it is. What is White rage?”
In Stelter’s tweet, he answered Carlson’s query by writing, “You are white rage, Tucker. You are. And you know it.”
Keilar doubles down on Stelter’s absurdity
Early Friday morning, CNN New Day host Brianna Keilar appeared to pick up where Stelter had left off, engaging in an insulting rant of her own against Carlson that included leveling virtually the exact same charge against the Fox host as her CNN colleague — that Carlson was, in fact, “white rage” in a physical form.
After repeatedly mocking Carlson and playing selectively edited clips from his monologue, which conveniently left out his remarks that didn’t fit her narrative, she concluded her rant by proclaiming of Carlson, “He pretends white rage doesn’t exist. He is white rage.”
The Daily Caller noted that Keilar used the phrase several more times during her program, including in a contentious interview with Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL), who she repeatedly pressured to use the “white rage” term himself as a descriptor for the individuals who had stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
“White rage” hits the media echo chamber
Interestingly, Grabien Media’s Tom Elliot conducted a search of a database for references to the term “white rage” on both CNN and MSNBC and found that, while it had been used previously on a handful of occasions over the past several months, use of the phrase had risen dramatically specifically within the month of June, prompting Elliot to tweet, “Witness the birth of this new expression, ‘white rage.'”
The media is referred to as an “echo chamber” for good reason, given that much of the time, they seemingly all repeat the same talking points, especially when targeting high-profile conservatives.
But in light of the data provided by Elliot, which was exemplified by Stelter and Keilar, at this point it appears to be a coordinated rollout of a distributed talking point, with Carlson simply being a convenient and favored target.
