‘Almost like a comedy show’: Cruz slams Harris for refusing to visit border

Vice President Kamala Harris has faced mounting criticism over her reticence to visit the U.S.-Mexico border amid an ongoing immigration crisis.

For his part, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) offered a particularly harsh assessment of her perceived failure, at one point likening the vice president’s actions to a “comedy show.”

“Not doing their job”

The Texas Republican’s comments on the matter came during a recent Fox News Channel interview focused primarily on the situation along the nation’s southern border.

“It is a complete and total abdication by the federal government,” Cruz said, accusing both Harris and President Joe Biden of “quite simply not doing their job.”

He went on to assert that White House officials are “refusing to enforce the law and they’ve created an unmitigated crisis at the border.”

Unlike Harris, who took on a leading role in addressing the situation in March, Cruz has visited the border personally. He was part of a group of senators who made the trip earlier this year, but he affirmed that things are even worse now than they were at that time.

“We just had last month over 180,000 people cross illegally last month,” he said. “We’re on pace for 2 million people to cross illegally.”

“She’s so terrified”

Despite the obvious problems at hand, Cruz accused Biden and Harris of having “zero intention of doing anything” to address the crisis, which he opined is the real reason that neither has yet visited the border.

“Kamala, at this point, it’s almost like a comedy show,” the senator said. “She’s so terrified. You know, it reminds me of that old show, ‘Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?’ She’ll go everywhere except the border because she’s afraid of what’s going on down there, and they have no solutions.”

Of course, the vice president has had no problem traveling elsewhere in recent months. She visited areas along the U.S.-Canada border and embarked on a Latin American tour to address the so-called “root causes” of illegal migration.

She has received bipartisan opprobrium for neglecting to visit the border, though, and at one point attempted to laugh off such backlash. Although Harris has indicated that she will take a trip to the border, she has not provided a date for that visit.

Cruz wrapped up his statement on the matter with a “call for American revival” in response to the “angry forces on the left that want to tear down all of the pillars of American democracy.”
