Trump scorches Biden over soaring gas prices ahead of Memorial Day weekend

The prices of many consumer goods have been on the rise as the effects of both Democrat-backed coronavirus relief measures and President Joe Biden’s near-sighted economic policies start to take shape — and gas prices are among those reported to be spiking as Americans head into one of the biggest travel weekends of the year.

It’s a fact former President Donald Trump ripped Biden over in a statement Thursday reminding voters to keep an eye on the pumps as they fill up before hitting the road for Memorial Day.

According to the Washington Examiner, Trump suggested in his latest “tweemail” — a tweet-like statement distributed via email blast — that Americans would soon “be saying how good it was to have me as your President” when they realize the consequences of Biden’s energy agenda.

“With Memorial Day Weekend coming up, tomorrow people start driving in the biggest automobile days of the year,” the former president wrote. “I’m sorry to say the gasoline prices that you will be confronted with are far higher than they were just a short number of months ago where we had gasoline under $2 a gallon.”

“We are energy independent no more”

Trump went on to contrast the current economic situation with that under his presidency, saying: “Remember as you’re watching the meter tick, and your dollars pile up, how great of a job Donald Trump did as President.”

He also noted that the current administration’s energy policies will have major foreign policy implications.

“Soon Russia and the Middle East will be making a fortune on oil, and you will be saying how good it was to have me as your President,” Trump wrote Thursday.

“Wasn’t it great to be energy independent, but we are energy independent no more,” he added. “Shame, shame, shame. Other than that, have a great Memorial Day Weekend!”

“Everything is tied together”

Of course, Trump isn’t alone in his warning to motorists that they may pay more at the pumps this long weekend. According to the Examiner, AAA said Tuesday that gas prices are the highest this holiday than they have been for the last seven Memorial Days.

Earlier this month, Biden Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm suggested during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper that the coronavirus pandemic might be to blame for the upsurge in gas prices.

“Could that be because of the virus itself as well? Everything is tied together,” she said, according to Fox News.

Still, others, like Trump, have pointed to the Biden administration’s energy policies — including new restrictions on drilling as well as the president’s decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline — as more likely culprits.
