‘No one ever replaces a legend’: Clay Travis, Buck Sexton to debut new radio show in Limbaugh’s old time slot

The tragic death of radio legend Rush Limbaugh to lung cancer earlier this year left some massive shoes to fill in in the conservative talk radio scene. Now, a pair of right-leaning pundits say they’ll give it their best shot.

According to the Washington Examiner, The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show will begin airing on June 21 during Limbaugh’s old time slot. The show is reportedly set to be broadcast on hundreds of stations across the U.S.

“I could not be more excited to step onto the biggest platform in radio with my fantastic co-host, Clay Travis,” Sexton said, according to the Examiner.

The former CIA employee and New York City Police Department counterterrorism expert went on to pledge that he and Travis will “make Rush listeners proud and bring a new generation of audience to the table.”

“No one ever replaces a legend”

Travis, a sports journalist and attorney, addressed the move himself in a Thursday blog post that also paid homage to the legendary broadcaster whose slot his own program will soon fill.

“No one ever replaces a legend, and Rush Limbaugh is the most influential and listened to radio voice across multiple generations,” Travis declared, according to the Examiner.

He went on: “But the battles Rush fought aren’t ending. If anything, they’re just becoming more intense. And I think intense and rigorous and intelligent debate has never been more important in this country than it is right now.”

Travis said he and Sexton “have been keeping quiet for months now” about their new role.

“We’ve even done secret mock shows with each other in addition to the daily shows we’ve also been doing,” he wrote in his Thursday blog post. “Trust me on this, Buck is fantastic, and we are going to have the best daily conversations anywhere on radio. I’m 100% confident of this fact.”

Bongino jumps in the fray

According to the Examiner, Travis and Sexton aren’t the only conservative voices who will be heard on the airwaves between the hours of noon and 3 p.m. ET.

Another is former Secret Service agent and New York City police officer Dan Bongino, who debuted his new show on Monday by interviewing former President Donald Trump, the Examiner reported separately.

Among the topics discussed was the possibility that Trump may run for office again in 2024, a proposition the former president said he is “very seriously” considering. “We’re very proud of what we’ve done, and we’ll let you know at the right time,” Trump added, according to the Examiner.
