Reuters reports that President Joe Biden has enacted a ban on travel from India.
Biden put the ban into effect on Friday. He is reported to have signed the ban on the advice of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A White House official has said that it is the result of “high COVID-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in India.”
What the ban does is prevent foreign nationals who have passed through India in the past two weeks from traveling to America. It goes into effect on Tuesday, May 4th.
Considering the situation in India, it is not that surprising that Biden has opted for a ban restricting travel from India. It’s probably a good idea.
But, what makes this travel ban so surprising is that it wasn’t too long ago that Biden referred to similar travel bans from former President Donald Trump as “xenophobic.”
A flashback
As Breitbart reports, back in 2020, Trump did the same thing that Biden is doing: he enacted several travel bans in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus into the United States.
At the time, Biden was one of the biggest critics of the idea.
