House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made a stunning mistake last week while trying to celebrate baseball legend Willie Mays’ 90th birthday.
According to the Daily Caller, Pelosi shared a tribute to the MLB Hall of Famer on Twitter — but a photo attached to her message depicted a different San Francisco Giants star.
Instead of showing Mays, nicknamed the Say Hey Kid, Pelosi’s tweet featured an image of the speaker alongside Willie McCovey, also a Hall of Famer who died in 2018, as the Daily Caller reported. It’s a glaring mistake for a congresswoman who has represented San Francisco — where both baseball icons played — for more than three decades.
A botched tribute
Pelosi’s team quickly deleted the tweet and reposted it with the apparently correct photo attached, but the damage was done.
“Happy 90th Birthday to an all-American icon, Willie Mays,” Pelosi’s tweet read. She went on to call the baseball star “a civic legend and national treasure.”

The blame game
In a statement to KCBS Radio, Pelosi’s office blamed a staffer for the error.
“A staffer inadvertently selected the wrong photo for the tweet,” they said. “The photo we wanted to use was of the Speaker and Willie Mays at Willie McCovey’s August 2018 wedding. The quickly deleted photo was the wrong photo from the right wedding. We apologize for the error.”
The statement didn’t mention whether the staffer received reprimand over the mix-up.
An unforgiving age
Unfortunately, this is an extraordinarily unforgiving age we are living in. Grace and forgiveness are in short supply precisely because of people like Pelosi — so why should those on the right give her any compassion when she proves she can’t live up to her own standards?
Best case scenario, the complicit liberal media will just ignore a gaffe like this — but at least one activist who spoke with the New York Post isn’t willing to let her off the hook so fast.
“Instead of symbolic gestures, like putting up pictures of baseball players, how about she talk about reparations,” Hawk Newsome, a Black Lives Matter activist in New York, reportedly told the Post. “That’s the problem with Democrats, we vote for them first and they think about us last.”
