Sen. Sanders wants “human infrastructure” included in Pres. Biden’s infrastructure proposal

Democrats are, once again, expanding the meaning of words in order to try to get their agenda through congress.

According to Breitbart, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is now working to include “human infrastructure” in President Joe Biden’s infrastructure proposal.

What’s that?

Based on Sanders’ recent comments on CNN’s “State of the Union,” “human infrastructure” has nothing to do with bridges or ports or roads or anything else one would commonly expect in an infrastructure package.

“Well, you know, it depends on what you call infrastructure,” Sanders told anchor Jake Tapper. “Roads and bridges and tunnels are infrastructure. I think many of us see a crisis in human infrastructure. When working-class families can’t find good quality affordable child care, that’s human infrastructure.”

Sanders went on to make the case that Medicare, for example, is human infrastructure and that, accordingly, plans to expand Medicare ought to be included in the upcoming infrastructure package.

“One of the areas that I am working on right now is the need to expand Medicare in order to provide dental care and hearing aids and eyeglasses for millions and millions of seniors who need these services but can’t afford it,” Sanders said. “Is that infrastructure? I think it is.”

Sanders continued: “Look, Jake, the truth is, in so many ways, we are behind many other countries throughout the world in providing for working families and the elderly and the children. And, I think now is the time to begin addressing our physical infrastructure and our human infrastructure. I want to see that happen as soon as possible.”

Democrats are ready to proceed with or without the Republicans

Just recently, Biden proposed a $2.3 trillion infrastructure package. While it provides marginal funding for real infrastructure, it largely focuses on social welfare initiatives and going green.

Republicans, accordingly, by and large, have come out against the proposal.

Now, Democrats are threatening to proceed without the Republicans, suggesting that they might try to use reconciliation to get the bill through the senate, as they did with the recently passed coronavirus spending bill.

“We want to make it bipartisan,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm recently said. “You know, ultimately, if that doesn’t happen, [President Biden] is elected to do the job to win the future for America to invest in our future.”

It is unclear how much support Sanders would get to include “human infrastructure” in the bill.
