Hunter Biden admits his last name was ‘gold’ in Ukraine

More than any member of the Biden family, Hunter Biden has come to symbolize the profligate use of the Biden name for profit in shady deals around the world.

In a new interview, Hunter doesn’t deny the obvious about his extraordinary luck, telling BBC his last name was “gold” in Ukraine.

Hunter admits last name was “gold”

Hunter’s $50,000 a month job at the company Burisma Holdings was heavily attacked during the 2020 election campaign, with critics saying that Hunter, a notorious ne’er-do-well with a drug problem and no relevant experience, must have gotten the job through his father.

Hunter partially admitted that was the case, saying the Biden name “opened doors that wouldn’t be opened up to other people” but said it was a “privilege and a burden.”

At the time, Biden was vice president and America’s leader in Ukrainian diplomacy, and his boasts about getting a prosecutor fired who had investigated Burisma would come back to bite him with further accusations of impropriety.

Concerning Burisma, Hunter said that the company wanted access to the Biden family because of the vice president’s reputation for “democracy and transparency” at a time when Russia was taking over Crimea.

“I think that they saw my name as gold and the reason they did was this: Right at that time, the Russians had invaded and taken Crimea and they were after the natural resources and the pipeline,” he said.

Hunter unapologetic

Both father and son have long denied that there was anything unseemly about Hunter’s deals, a story that became harder to justify when emails publicized from Hunter’s laptop shortly before the 2020 election showed that Joe Biden met with Burisma executives.

While Hunter acknowledges the privileges of being a senator’s son, he remains unapologetic about reaping the rewards.

He acknowledged to BBC that he “missed” the “perception” of impropriety caused by the Burisma connection, but his spin on the episode has a level of chutzpah that only a Biden could pull off.

Echoing his BBC comments, Hunter portrayed his family’s conflicts of interest in Ukraine as some kind of geopolitical masterstroke, calling the Burisma job a “f*** you” to Vladimir Putin.

In a CBS interview, he portrayed himself as the victim of a smear job, saying his only “mistake” in working for Burisma was “underestimating the way it would be used against me.”
