Don Lemon defends Biden after WaPo gives him ‘Four Pinocchios’ on Georgia voting law statements

CNN’s Don Lemon isn’t anywhere close to resembling an unbiased journalist.

The host took his blatant partisan commentary to a whole new level this week, however, when he defended President Joe Biden’s false statements about Georgia voting laws even after left-wing media outlets admitted Biden’s claims were completely unfounded.

Lemon tries to flip narrative

As Fox News reported last week, The Washington Post gave Biden “Four Pinocchios” for how he characterized Georgia’s new voting reforms.  The paper’s fact checker, Glenn Kessler, took particular issue with Biden’s claim that the legislation prevents voters in the state from casting a ballot after 5 p.m.

“One could understand a flub in a news conference,” Kessler wrote. “But then this same claim popped up in an official presidential statement. Not a single expert we consulted who has studied the law understood why Biden made this claim, as this was the section of law that expanded early voting for many Georgians.”

Despite the left-wing Post admitting Biden’s blatant falsehoods, Lemon still defended the president Monday during his evening broadcast and tried to turn the issue back onto former President Donald Trump.

“Get this, Republicans have a new talking point, trying to turn Trump’s big lie onto Joe Biden, saying Joe Biden is lying about what’s in Georgia’s new voting law that restricts ballot access,” Lemon said. “New GOP talking point: Trying to turn Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ on to Biden for misspeaking about Georgia’s voting law.”

Called out

Newsbusters managing editor Curtis Houck called out Lemon via Twitter on Monday for his “incredibly dishonest and openly partisan” commentary.

“WTF is this?” Houck tweeted. “Biden was just ‘misspeaking’ and not lying? This Don Lemon chyron is so incredibly dishonest and openly partisan, showing no regard for the facts about Georgia’s voting law.”

“This is your daily reminder that, if you’re a conservative or Republican, CNN hates you,” he added.

CNN fact checker admits Biden is wrong

Lemon’s comments are particularly galling given that CNN’s own fact checker Daniel Dale had to acknowledge that Biden’s statements were false, according to Fox.

“This is misleading for two reasons,” Dale said. “First, the new law does not change Georgia’s Election Day voting hours, which still end at 7 p.m.”

“Second, while the law does set a default end time of 5 p.m. for early voting on weekdays and on Saturdays, counties were already allowed to end early voting at 5 p.m. under the previous law,” he added. “The new law gives counties the option to offer early voting as late as 7 p.m. if they want to.”
