Texas legislature is considering seven anti-abortion bills

Texas is taking aim at Roe v. Wade.

Breitbart reports that Texas’ Senate is getting ready to hold hearings on seven different pro-life bills.

The bills

Three of the measures are included in S.B. 1647, or what is being called “The Texas Abolition Strategy.”

One of these measures is S.B. 8, or the “Heartbeat Act,” which, as its names suggests, would make it illegal for an abortion to be performed once a fetal heartbeat is detected. The second measure, S.B. 1173, or the “Preborn NonDiscrimination Act,” would not allow abortions because of the unborn baby’s disability, ethnicity, or sex. And, S.B. 9, or the “Human Life Protection Act,” would abolish all remaining abortions in Texas, if the U.S. Supreme Court were one day to overturn Roe v. Wade.

There are three other measures that are not included in “The Texas Abolition Strategy.

One is the “Every Mother Matters Act,” or S.B. 802. What this act would do make it so that free counseling and other resources are available for women looking to have an abortion.

S.B. 394 would require an in-person examination by a medical professional before a woman could use abortion-inducing drugs. Currently, women are at times allowed to obtain such drugs in the mail.

And, finally, S.B. 650 would stop Texas’ government allowing abortions to be performed in taxpayer-funded buildings.

Hope for life

With all of these bills, Texas is among those states leading the way in the fight against abortion activists.

Several Republican states have begun pursuing such legislation now that the U.S. Supreme Court has a decisively conservative majority with Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Bret Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.

Previously, when the court did not have a conservative majority, it was understood that such legislation would be sure to get ruled unconstitutional by the High Court. But, now, there is hope that the court would uphold such legislation. There is even hope that the court might one day be willing to reconsider Roe v. Wade.

One of these bills might just give the Supreme Court a chance to do just that. This is certainly something to keep an eye on going forward.
