Cruz thinks Biden ‘really doesn’t like’ Harris after he tasked her with handling border crisis

President Joe Biden recently announced that he had tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with handling diplomatic matters in an attempt to stem the growing crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border.

While Harris was seemingly pleased to accept the new role, at least one prominent Republican asserted that Biden had not done her any favors.

“You take it”

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) made his case during an appearance this week on Fox News Channel’s America’s News Room.

“My reaction to that appointment is, is, wow, Joe Biden really doesn’t like Kamala Harris,” he said.

Calling the immigration problem “the biggest political mess” of Biden’s first two months in office, Cruz said that it “threatens to derail the entire administration.”

Instead of tackling the problem himself, the Texas Republican said that Biden “looks to his vice president and says, you take it,” predicting that Harris “is not going to be able to solve this crisis.”

Cruz went on to reiterate the prevailing GOP position that the Biden administration “created this crisis because of their political partisan commitments that they can’t back away from.”

“Dismantled all the elements”

Further expounding on the point, Cruz said that “the first thing” the president did upon entering office “was stop construction of the border wall” and reinstitute a “failed policy” requiring border agents to release undocumented migrants after they are detained.

The senator also took issue with Biden’s decision to end the so-called Remain in Mexico Policy, which former President Donald Trump instituted and required migrants to wait south of the border while their asylum cases were being adjudicated.

“But because the Democrats campaigned on saying [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] is evil, securing the border is wrong because the Democrats support open borders,” Cruz claimed.

As for the vice president, he said that she “doesn’t have anything to do other than go down there and let everybody go,” insisting that it is “the only option that is consisted with the political promises she’s made.”

Of course, Biden sought to shift the blame to his predecessor during his first solo press conference on Thursday, declaring that Trump “dismantled all the elements that exist to deal with what had been a problem and has been continuing to be a problem for a long time.
