Rush Limbaugh expresses gratitude during final radio broadcast: ‘God’s with me today’

Millions were left heartbroken by the death of Rush Limbaugh last week. Before he passed on, the legendary conservative radio host left an intimate and moving message with his devoted fan base.

In one of his final broadcasts, Limbaugh expressed gratitude for his life, his many fans, his loving wife and family, and the blessings he enjoyed over the course of his storied career.

Parting message: “I’ve been very lucky”

Limbaugh gave his last broadcast on his eponymous radio show on Feb. 2. Days later, he died from lung cancer at the age of 70. In the wake of his passing, many are looking back at Limbaugh’s final words on air.

In a parting message he gave in December, his last broadcast of 2020, the radio legend expressed gratitude to have lived longer than expected as he looked back over a life and career filled with many blessings.

He thanked his family and fans for their overwhelming love, which affirmed his belief in the goodness of people and of life even in the darkest days.

“Today I’ve got some problems, but I’m feeling pretty good today. God’s with me today,” he said.

“I have learned what love really is during this,” he said. “Even in the most dire circumstances, if you just wait, if you just remain open to things, the good in it will reveal itself. And that has happened to me as well, in countless, countless ways.”

Rush’s fans give thanks

Limbaugh also spoke about how glad he was to have had the chance to hear just what he meant to those he has impacted before passing away.

“Again, think how many people who pass away, never hear the eulogies, never hear the thank-yous. I’ve been very lucky, folks, in I can’t tell you how many ways,” he said.

Since his death, Limbaugh’s many fans have given their thanks anew for Rush and the impact he had on their lives over course of his remarkable career.

“We had somebody who could help us feel the words he was saying, and then we could put that to our everyday life,” one caller said Monday. “He made us feel like he was us.”

Limbaugh’s wife Kathryn announced that a virtual memorial will be held in remembrance of his life.
