Rep. Ocasio-Cortez may be on the hot seat

If you are tired of hearing about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), then you are going to like this.

According to a report from the Daily Wire, New York’s Democrat Party may soon oust Ocasio-Cortez.

Some background

If you have been following the news, then you probably know that several Democrat-run states are in the middle of a population freefall. New York is no exception, having lost over 126,000 residents in 2020.

This a big deal for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that congressional representation in the House, in addition to Electoral College votes, is based directly on a state’s population.

It turns out that New York’s population has taken such a hit that the state now has to give up one Electoral College vote and one seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. This is where the Daily Wire’s report picks up.

Ocasio-Cortez’s failure to “ingratiate” herself with NY Dems.

Practically speaking, the New York Democratic Party now has to redraw its congressional districts so that there is one less district. And, according to the Daily Wire, it is believed that the Party will do so in a way that eliminates Ocasio-Cortez’s seat.

“Ocasio-Cortez, who has not ingratiated herself to New York’s Democrats, preferring to build a more national profile than assist the state party in fundraising, is the most likely Representative to be booted from office,” the outlet reports.

Thus, it would appear that Ocasio-Cortez’s days in the House of Representatives really are numbered. According to the Daily Wire, though, Ocasio-Cortez has ambitious political plans for the future, even if she does get redistricted out of her current seat.

Ocasio-Cortez v. Schumer

There have been rumors going around for a while now that Ocasio-Cortez is seriously considering challenging Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) in the next election. These rumors appear to be true, although Ocasio-Cortez has not directly affirmed them.

According to the Daily Wire, Ocasio-Cortez will base her decision on Schumer’s performance over the next couple of years as Senate Majority Leader. But, the bad news for Ocasio-Cortez is that Schumer is already taking steps to head off this challenge.

Politico reports that “Schumer, who is up for reelection in 2022, has been taking steps both publicly and privately to steel himself from a left-wing primary challenge — especially from his biggest threat, Ocasio-Cortez.”

Let’s hope this is the beginning of the end of Ocasio-Cortez’s political career.
