Donald Trump, Jr. stunned fans with a powerful tweet Wednesday after news broke that hundreds had stormed the U.S. Capitol as lawmakers worked to count the Electoral College votes cementing Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential race.
According to Breitbart, the president’s son was quick to condemn the rioters, saying plainly: “This is wrong and not who we are.”
“Be peaceful and use your 1st Amendment rights, but don’t start acting like the other side. We have a country to save and this doesn’t help anyone,” Trump Jr. added alongside a video of rioters clashing with U.S. Capitol Police. Take a look:

Chaos at the Capitol
According to the Associated Press, D.C. police confirmed Wednesday that at least four had died amid the chaos at the Capitol, which saw supporters of the president who had reportedly attended a rally for him in Washington earlier in the day break through Capitol security and wreak havoc, breaking glass and windows and even stealing items out of Congress members’ offices.
One woman was shot dead by Capitol Police, the AP reported, and three others — two men and one woman — died in separate “medical emergencies” on the Capitol grounds, police said. The woman shot was later identified as a 35-year-old military veteran reported to be from California.
“As protesters were forcing their way toward the House Chamber where Members of Congress were sheltering in place, a sworn [U.S. Capitol Police] employee discharged their service weapon, striking an adult female,” police revealed Thursday, according to USA Today. “Medical assistance was rendered immediately, and the female was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. She has been identified as Ashli Babbitt.”
As of early Thursday afternoon, more than 80 had been arrested in connection to the incident and a subsequent curfew instituted in Washington, according to NPR.
“There will be an orderly transition”
Like Trump Jr., the president took to social media to denounce the violence, telling rioters to “go home with love and peace” in a video posted to Twitter and Facebook, as Breitbart reported.
The platforms later removed the video and suspended President Trump’s account. By Thursday morning, Facebook had opted to ban the president from its properties, including Instagram, “indefinitely,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
The chaos Wednesday ended with Congress reconvening late in the evening to certify Biden and Kamala Harris’ win in the Electoral College. The proceedings wrapped up just before 4 a.m. ET on Thursday.
President Trump subsequently released a statement through a spokesperson, saying, “Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless, there will be an orderly transition on January 20th.” He went on:
I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!
