In the wake of this year’s general election, former Vice President Joe Biden has announced his intention to “heal” and “unify” the country.
However, if the results of a recent poll are to be believed, then it would seem the aging Democrat has his work cut out for him.
A survey conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University found only 20% of Republicans believe Biden won the presidency legitimately, The Washington Examiner reported.
The poll was conducted between Dec. 16 and 20 among 1,000 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Trump 2024
Unsurprisingly, the survey found that Republicans have an extremely low view of Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), with only 10% of GOP respondents rating Biden favorably, and only 7% rating Harris favorably.
Republicans surveyed showed a high loyalty to President Trump: 71% of GOP respondents said they would vote for Trump if he ran again in 2024 while another 16% said they would consider it.
Although rare, it is not unheard of for a president to seek a second, non-consecutive term. Former President Grover Cleveland retook the White House in 1892 after being defeated in the election of 1888.
Former President Theodore Roosevelt also launched an unsuccessful third party run in 1912 despite having already served two terms as president.
Staff insult Republicans
In a victory speech near Wilmington, Delaware, on Nov. 7, Biden said that Americans should “give each other a chance.”
“This is the time to heal in America,” he said. Despite the fact that it’s been Democrats who have demonized their opposition for the past four years, the former vice president insisted, “It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, to lower the temperature. To see each other again. To listen to each other again.”
“And to make progress, we have to stop treating our opponents as our enemies,” Biden continued. “They are not our enemies, they are Americans.”
Still, some members of Biden’s party have made it clear they aren’t willing to make nice with Americans who think differently than they do. Earlier this month, Biden’s proposed deputy White House chief of staff Jen O’Malley Dillon described Republicans as “a bunch of f***ers” in an interview with Glamour magazine, Breitbart reported.
