‘Fox is fake news’: Fox News’ Griff Jenkins heckled by Trump supporters in Georgia

Fox News, once considered a major ally of President Donald Trump and his conservative supporters in the mainstream media, is taking heat from viewers over its increasingly slanted coverage of the president.

The shift was evident Saturday when Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins was loudly heckled by angry Trump supporters as he attempted to provide coverage for the network ahead of Trump’s rally in Valdosta, Georgia. The president was in Georgia to marshall Republican support for the upcoming Senate runoff races.

“We trusted you”

Sarah Gough, a correspondent for British Sky News, caught the incident involving her media colleague Jenkins on video and posted it to social media for all to see, the Daily Mail reported.

She noted, “Fox News journalists are getting the most abuse from the crowd” that was awaiting the president’s arrival.

“Fox News does not call the election!” one man shouted angrily at Jenkins, likely in reference to the network’s notably early call of Arizona for Democratic nominee Joe Biden on Election night, as well as its “official” call of the entire race for Biden days later, despite multiple challenges and legal disputes that have kept the reported results in question.

Others in the crowd shouted “traitors” at the Fox reporter and someone else loudly lamented that “we trusted you” — a trust that has obviously since been broken.

“Fox is fake news”

Another video that emerged from the pre-rally crowd showed that President Trump’s supporters have now lumped Fox News in with the rest of its “fake news” competitors in the media and attached that derisive label favored by the president that previously applied mostly to networks like CNN and MSNBC.

As noted, many of the president’s supporters took exception to Fox’s early call of Arizona for Biden, but that was likely only a final straw. Great frustration has also been expressed for how Fox seemed to delay calling certain states for Trump that he had obviously won and, perhaps just as infuriatingly, called the House for Democrats — and wrongly predicted an expanded Democratic majority — before the polls had even closed in several Western states.

Factor in the Fox network’s slanted pre-election polls that overwhelmingly favored Biden as well as increasingly negative coverage of the president from a number of Fox’s hosts and commentators before, during, and after the election — particularly the short shrift his claims of fraud and irregularities have received — and it becomes obvious that Trump’s supporters have reason to be unhappy.

Whether the top brass at Fox News have any desire to regain their formerly loyal base of viewers remains to be seen and, at this rate, doing so will be a rather steep climb.
