Biden signals support for repeal of ‘loophole’ protecting gun industry from lawsuits

Former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) attracted the ire of gun owners nationwide after declaring: “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.”

In the wake of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s media-declared victory in last month’s election, it appears he might be planning to follow through on O’Rourke’s radical gun-control platform, as reported by Breitbart.

“They don’t care if they win”

By taken a novel approach to the firearms industry that could effectively bankrupt major manufacturers, gun-rights advocates warn that the Democratic Party’s agenda could be part of a larger, more aggressive gun-grabbing agenda.

For Biden’s part, he spent time on the campaign trail denouncing gun manufacturers as the “enemy” and bragging that he voted in 2005 against a bill that went on to shield the industry from civil liability for the misuse of their products.

In February, he asserted that it was a “mistake” to give gun manufacturers a “loophole that does not allow them to be sued for the carnage they are creating.”

The former vice president’s plan to hold the industry “accountable” has the potential to destroy it completely, as attorney Kevin Jamison told the Daily Caller.

“The guys pushing these lawsuits, they don’t care if they win,” he said. “They care if they can force these companies to hemorrhage money. They are in the business of putting gun companies out of business.”

“As expensive to own a gun as humanly possible”

Jamison went on to assert that if the left is able to “destroy enough companies or force them to adopt their rules of procedure then there will be no place to buy guns,” which would effectively serve the Democratic Party’s greater goal.

“They want to make it as expensive to own a gun as humanly possible — and as difficult,” he said. “If they get even part of their wish list, they won.”

Of course, repealing this so-called “loophole” is just one of Biden’s ambitious gun-control proposals, as advocacy groups have warned.

As Breitbart explained, Biden has proposed a ban on high-capacity magazines and certain firearms deemed “assault weapons” as well as a gun buyback program that many critics equate with confiscation. Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris has expressed support for mandatory buybacks.

All in all, it appears the anti-gun crowd has plenty of reasons to celebrate a potential Biden administration.
