Trump joins Fox host Maria Bartiromo for first post-election interview

On Sunday, President Donald Trump gave his first one-on-one interview since Election Day on Fox Business.

The highly-anticipated interview took place by phone on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo.

In the interview, the president discussed the results of the “rigged” election and blasted media “suppression,” saying, “This election is a total fraud.” Watch the full interview here:

A surprise move

The president’s decision to do his first post-election one-on-one interview with Fox News is a bit of a surprising one. That’s because the president has been highly critical of Fox in recent weeks.

Just on Saturday, for example, President Trump tweeted: “.@FoxNews daytime is virtually unwatchable, especially during the weekends. Watch @OANN, @newsmax, or almost anything else. You won’t have to suffer through endless interviews with Democrats, and even worse!”

The president is certainly not alone in this criticism. Many viewers have left Fox for the networks cited by President Trump: Newsmax and One America News.

Many have noted how Fox has been drifting to the left for years now. But, what has really been driving Republicans away in recent weeks has been the network’s coverage of the 2020 election.

“They forgot the Golden Goose”

It started with Fox’s decision on Election Night to call early the state of Arizona for Democratic nominee Joe Biden. To put this into perspective, the situation is still unclear in Arizona nearly a month later as the president’s legal team has a hearing scheduled for this week.

It was later discovered that Fox’s decision desk was being run by Aaron Mishkin, a Democratic operative with ties to both former President Barack Obama and failed 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton. Fox never backtracked, and many fans haven’t looked back after tuning out.

About a week after Election Day, the president tweeted: “.@FoxNews daytime ratings have completely collapsed. Weekend daytime even WORSE. Very sad to watch this happen, but they forgot what made them successful, what got them there. They forgot the Golden Goose. The biggest difference between the 2016 Election, and 2020, was @FoxNews.”

Having said all of that, the president does still believe that there are certain people on Fox News who have stuck to conservative principles, aren’t blindly pushing the liberal narrative, and who are thus worth watching. One of those individuals would certainly be Maria Bartiromo.

This probably explains why the president chose Bartiromo for his first post-election interview.
