Before Election Day, some polls had suggested that President Donald Trump might receive unprecedented support from the Black community. That may still be the case, but, at least as of Wednesday morning, those numbers have yet to be reported.
What we do know, however, is that President Trump has received unprecedented support from a different demographic, one that is expected to be this election’s largest racial or ethnic minority: the Hispanic community.
“We must have gotten obliterated”
Probably where this has been most evident is in Florida, whose 29 Electoral College votes President Trump is expected to win. If this does indeed turn out to be the case, then the president will largely have the Hispanic community to thank. Exit polls indicate that, whereas Hillary Clinton in 2016 won Florida’s Hispanic vote by some 27 percentage points, Biden only has an eight percentage point lead.
President Trump, during his campaigning, made a concerted effort to win Florida’s Hispanic community. And, it appears to have paid off, especially among the state’s Cuban and Venezuelan populations, both of which being fully aware of the results of the kind of socialism being pushed by the Democrats.
Breitbart reports that one “top Miami Democrat” blamed Biden’s failure in Florida on the defund the police movement. “We must have gotten obliterated by Hispanics. . . . . defund the police killed us,” the individual said. Whatever the case may be, the Hispanic community came through big time for the president in Florida.
A “realignment”
Early results also indicate that one Democratic stronghold in Texas, although it will stay blue in 2020, could have a chance of going red in the future, and, again, it is because of the Hispanic vote. That county is Starr County, which is the most Latino county in the United States with 96 percent of residents identifying as such.
Back in 2016, Clinton managed to win the county 76 percent to 17 percent. 2020, however, is witnessing a massive turnaround with Biden only leading Trump by 5 percentage points, 52 to 47.
Statistician Thao Nguyen tweeted: “We are witnessing a dramatic and historic realignment.”
There’s more
Exit polls also indicate that President Trump is exceeding expectations with the Hispanic vote in both Georgia and Ohio as well. In Georgia, compared to Clinton’s 40 percentage point margin of victory among Hispanic voters in 2016, Biden is up 25 points. And, in Ohio, Biden is up 24 points, which is far less than Clinton’s 41 point margin of victory.
The president’s success with the Hispanic community has some Democrats losing their minds. Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, for example, tweeted a video in which Florida is blown up by a laser beam.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), on the other hand, is already strategizing about how to win Hispanics back to the Democratic Party. She tweeted: “I won’t comment much on tonight’s results as they are evolving and ongoing, but I will say we’ve been sounding the alarm about Dem vulnerabilities w/ Latinos for a long, long time. There is a strategy and a path, but the necessary effort simply hasn’t been put in.”
At the time of this writing, we still don’t know who the next president will be. Several swing states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are still counting ballots, and it would appear that both Trump’s and Biden’s lawyers are gearing up for a legal battle.
