Columnist concludes Pelosi has ‘totally lost her touch’ as she aims to retain House speakership

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has been nominated by her party to serve another term in the leadership position, which the 80-year-old lawmaker hinted would be her last.

If Ben Domenech, a columnist for the Federalist, is correct in his assessment that Pelosi has “totally lost her touch,” however, one more term as House speaker could be one too many.

“Greeted as a liberator”

He narrated a video posted on Rumble this week establishing the argument that the California Democrat is in no shape to lead her party in Congress for another two years.

For starters, Domenech pointed out that the GOP defied polling expectations in this year’s House races, winning 213 seats to the Democratic Party’s 222 and significantly cutting into the Democrats’ lead in the chamber.

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi will only be able to afford to lose four votes on anything, making it essentially impossible to govern,” he said. “And guess what? It’s her own damn fault.”

Domenech opined that Pelosi was “greeted as a liberator by the Washington press corps” upon her return as speaker of the House in 2019.

“There she was, smiling on the cover of every magazine, a welcome conquering heroine replacing the evil Republican nerd Paul Ryan,” he recalled. “But while Pelosi’s tenure a decade earlier was lauded for her firm control of a difficult caucus, Pelosi version 2.0 turned out to be a political albatross for Democrats.”

“Never any real possibility”

According to Domenech, Pelosi’s “instincts have atrophied” and her “political gambits have failed” in recent years.

“She’s been a source of one very public screw-up after another, and along with her follow octogenarian Democrat leaders, she stands in the way of generations of would-be progressive leaders taking the party in a new direction,” he asserted.

Domenech went on to insist her demand for a COVID-19 relief bill that included “everything and the kitchen sink” all but ensured that “there was never any real possibility this stimulus would get done.”

Pelosi has faced some criticism from within her own caucus, as evidenced in a conference call shortly after this month’s underwhelming election results.

As moderate U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) declared to party leadership: “We have to commit to not saying the words ‘defund the police’ ever again. We need to not ever use the words ‘socialist’ or ‘socialism’ ever again,” she says. “It does matter, and we have lost good members because of that.”
