Biden’s secretary of state pick discussed meeting in 2015 to offer Hunter Biden ‘advice’

Although Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has received widespread praise from the mainstream media for his prospective Cabinet picks, there are some signs of scandal brewing beneath the surface.

According to recent reports, Biden’s choice to serve as secretary of state discussed meeting with Hunter Biden regarding “advice” while the younger Biden sat on the board of Ukrainian energy firm Bursima Holdings.

“I know you are impossibly busy”

Hunter Biden, the former vice president’s son, attracted significant scrutiny in the weeks leading up to Election Day, particularly based on the contents of a laptop, which fueled allegations that Joe Biden leveraged his political influence to benefit his son.

That scandal prompted renewed concerns among conservatives that the elder Biden could be compromised by foreign entities including China.

One email reportedly leaked from Hunter Biden’s laptop suggested that his father knew more about his foreign business ties than previously admitted, including evidence that the prominent Democrat met with an executive from Burisma while his son sat on its board.

According to an email from May 2015, the younger Biden sought a meeting with Blinken, a family friend and close ally of his father, for “advice” shortly after he took the board position at Burisma.

“Have a few minutes next week to grab a cup of coffee?” he asked. “I know you are impossibly busy, but would like to get your advice on a couple of things.”

Senators take note of Blinken-Biden meeting

Blinken, then serving as deputy secretary of state under the Obama administration, responded: “Absolutely.”

Although a meeting had been scheduled for later that month, a terminal illness impacting Hunter Biden’s brother, Beau, led to a postponement until July.

The emails were uncovered last year as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request, leading to an inquiry about a year ago by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI).

They sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an effort to find out more about the nature of the meeting between Blinken and Biden.

Joe Biden’s announcement that Blinken would serve as a key Cabinet secretary in his administration, however, provided new relevance to the narrative.
