Democratic nominee Joe Biden suffered multiple foot fractures after he slipped while playing with his dog Major in Delaware on Sunday, The Hill reported.
Biden twisted his ankle while playing with the dog, one of two German Shepherds owned by him and his wife, Jill Biden.
Biden received medical care for his injury in Newark, Delaware. His doctor, Kevin O’Connor, initially thought the injury was a sprain, but after more detailed imaging, hairline fractures were discovered. Biden will have to wear an orthopedic walking boot for several weeks while the fractures heal.
“Initial x-rays did not show any obvious fracture, but his clinical exam warranted more detailed imaging,” O’Connor said. “Follow-up CT scan confirmed hairline (small) fractures of President-elect Biden’s lateral and intermediate cuneiform bones, which are in the mid-foot. It is anticipated that he will likely require a walking boot for several weeks.”
Oldest president
Biden will be inaugurated as president on Jan. 20 if President Donald Trump’s remaining legal challenges of alleged voter fraud fail to change vote counts.
Trump has refused to concede and has filed numerous lawsuits challenging election results and seeking to overturn tens of thousands of votes in three to four key states that would give him an electoral victory.
While the final result is still up in the air, Trump has an uphill battle to turn enough votes to win a second term.
Biden has a slim lead in three states — Wisconsin, Georgia and Arizona. These states have now certified their election results, but ongoing challenges continue to work their way through the courts.
Voter fraud is being alleged by Trump’s legal team in these states as well as Pennsylvania, where Biden leads by 81,000 votes.
Biden’s health
At 78 years old, Biden will be the oldest president ever at the time of his inauguration. Many commentators have said that Biden is showing signs of mental decline or dementia because of his many gaffes and lapses on the campaign trail, but he and his doctors have said that is not the case.
Biden released a report on his health in December 2019, in which it was reported that he takes medication for high cholesterol, acid reflux, seasonal allergies, as well as blood thinners.
O’Connor called Biden “vigorous” and in good health at the time of the report.
