Police officer run over, dozens of officers injured by rioters in Philadelphia

Rioters in Philadelphia ran over a police officer in a pickup truck, in a sickening attack that was captured on camera.

The assault occurred during a violent night of rioting and looting that erupted Monday, after Philadelphia police killed a black man who refused to drop a knife, the Washington Examiner reported.

Over 50 cops were injured throughout the evening, and at least 81 arrests were made, many of them for burglary, although other offenses included assault on police, aggravated assault and arson. At least one police car was set on fire, and rioters threw bricks and rocks at officers, Philadelphia’s WTFX reported.

At one point, a female sergeant was deliberately run over by someone in a black pickup truck.

The assault can be seen in graphic video, which shows the vehicle careening through a street and into a police line. The 56-year-old victim was sent to the hospital in stable condition with a broken leg and other injuries. According to police, the driver of the truck crashed the vehicle not far from the scene and has been taken into custody.

Philadelphia ordered a curfew after the mayhem carried on for a second night Tuesday, which saw widespread looting across the city, WTFX reported.

“*Alert* A large crowd of appx 1000 is looting businesses in the area of Castor and Aramingo. Avoid the area,” Philadelphia Police tweeted Tuesday night.

At least 11 people were shot in violent incidents as well, which included reported standoffs between looters. One man had a car full of stolen property stolen by a group of looters. Authorities have advised people in affected areas to stay indoors.

“The Philadelphia Police Department is requesting that all residents in the 12, 16, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26th Districts remain indoors except when necessary. These areas are experiencing widespread demonstrations that have turned violent with looting,” tweeted Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management.

The riots are unwelcome news for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, who is fighting hard with President Donald Trump to win Pennsylvania, a critical swing state, in the upcoming presidential election.

Supporters of Trump didn’t hesitate to slam the forbearance that Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-A), showed toward criminals this summer as riots and attacks on police erupted in many cities.

“This riot broke out after Philadelphia police shot and killed an assailant that was attacking them with a knife. @KamalaHarris said these riots should not stop, and she helps bail out anyone arrested as a result. The anti-law and order candidate!” tweeted former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik.
