Trump calls into interview to congratulate UFC winner Colby Covington

UFC Fighter Colby Covington has a very important fan.

The Trump supporter was in raptures Saturday night after receiving a personal shout out over his latest win from the leader of the free world.

Trump shares heartfelt call with UFC winner

Covington was having a good night already after defeating rival Tyron Woodley with a TKO, just over a minute into the fifth round of UFC Fight Night’s main event in Las Vegas. But there was no way for him to anticipate what happened next.

Sporting a Keep America Great hat, Covington was all smiles after learning that President Donald Trump phoned in to a post-match interview to congratulate him. In a phone call full of Trumpian enthusiasm, the president said he wanted to get back from a campaign rally Saturday so he could watch the fight.

“You are a great fighter, man. I’ll tell you. You make it so easy, I don’t know how the hell you do it,” Trump said. “Congratulations, I wanted to watch that fight tonight.” Watch:

Covington, who gave Trump a shout out of his own after his big win, said that the president gave him the strength to win with a handshake at a MAGA rally.

“Thank you so much Mr. President. You gave me the dragon energy when you shook my hand on Sunday at your rally,” Covington replied. “It doesn’t matter if King Kong was in front of me, I was not going to lose after getting to shake your hand and be at your rally.”

Trump fan boosts “silent majority” after victory

The exchange followed a raucous post-victory speech in which Covington boosted the “silent majority” and predicted a landslide victory for Trump in November. The fighter also slammed “woke athletes,” naming LeBron James, who inject progressive politics into sports, echoing President Trump’s own criticisms of Black Lives Matter.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the silent majority is ready to make some noise,” Covington said, with an American flag draped over him. “If you thought that was a beating, wait until Nov. 3 when Donald Trump gets his hands on sleepy Joe. That’s going to be a landslide.”

“I’m sick of these woke athletes and these spineless cowards like LeBron James,” he added.

“I appreciated the shout out too,” Trump told Covington over the phone. “I’m your fan, you’re my fan, two of a kind.” Nobody can say that Trump doesn’t know how to make people feel special.
